Steven D. Aust obtained the PhD from the University of Illinois in 1965. After postdoctoral studies at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm he joined the Biochemistry Department at Michigan State University. In 1987 he moved to Utah State University to establish the Biotechnology Center. He is currently an Emeritus Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at USU. Thomas Hebdon, Scott Terri and Broc Gunderson are undergraduate research assistants in Dr. Aust's laboratory. Jordon Humbert is currently attending the College of Dentistry at The Ohio State University.
